Located in the Eifel massif, near Adenau, the legendary Nürburgring circuit was more than 22 km long. it was considered too dangerous after Niki Lauda's accident in 1976.
The new 4.5 km F1 circuit welcomed F1 in 1984 as part of the European Grand Prix then the following year as the German Grand Prix.
It returned to the calendar in 1995 as the European and Luxembourg Grand Prix (1997 and 98) before being the German Grand Prix again from 2009 for three years.
Following the Covid19 pandemic, the Eifel Grand Prix is organized there in 2020.
