Located 10 km northwest of the capital of Indiana, this circuit is famous for the Indianapolis 500 miles, which counted towards the Formula 1 World Championship from 1950 to 1960.
In 1998, Formula 1 decided to return to the United States. The Indianapolis Speedway was chosen to host the United States Grand Prix in the year 2000. Taking half of the famous oval in reverse, the new layout includes a slower section called the "Infield".
