Located 30 km east of Bologna, this circuit was built in 1950. It was initially named Circuit de Santano after the river that borders it, then became Circuit d'Imola in the seventies. In 1970, while significant work was being done, it was renamed Autodromo Dino Ferrari.
For the 1980 season, Formula 1 left Monza to make a stop at Imola. The track offers a fast layout with superb sequences. In 1981, F1 returned to Monza, but the circuit has since hosted the San Marino Grand Prix. After Enzo Ferrari's death, his first name was added to the circuit's name.
After the dramatic events of 1994, the circuit was modified and two chicanes were added, losing the circuit's fast character. As the stands became outdated, F1 left Imola after 2006.
In 2020, the circuit returned to the calendar as the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix following the Covid19 pandemic.
