On 13 September 2007, the World Council of the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile stripped McLaren-Mercedes of all its points in the 2007 Constructors' World Championship for spying on Ferrari.

Qualifying is divided into 3 sessions.
At the end of the first 15-minute session (Q1), the 6 slowest drivers are eliminated and placed on positions 17 to 22.
At the end of the second 15-minute session (Q2), the 6 slowest drivers are eliminated and placed on positions 11 to 16.
A final session (Q3) lasting 20 minutes determines positions 1 to 10 for the 10 remaining drivers.
